College Admissions, Scholarships and Financial Aid - Understanding the New Normal
Parents who are preparing their children for college need to understand there has been a quiet shift in admissions criteria and decision policies with many major schools. Standardized Tests SAT/ACT are now taking a more important role, even overshadowing course load, class rank and GPA. This is primarily because for the thousands of applications received each year from thousands of high schools across the country, it is far easier for a college admissions office to compare SAT/ACT scores, precisely because they are standardized.
Course work and extracurricular activities are still important, but SAT/ACT scores are more and more likely to be the predominant determining factor of whether you get into the school of your choice and whether academic scholarship money will be made available. |
